The Tag Navigation Web Part for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 renders Managed Metadata, Taxonomies, Enterprise Keywords or Social Tags right from the Term Store as additional hierarchical, tree-style navigations using flexible templates. The tags are linked to the SharePoint 2010 Tag Profiles or, alternatively, directly to the tagged content via search. The SharePoint 2010 Tag Navigation Web Part offers an additional content navigation to browse the corporate knowledge hierarchically - cross site-collection, independent of the content store's structure. Simply browse the content by organizational tree, by product groups, by services, by customers or locations.

    The web part also could be used as some kind of hierarchical glossary, very helpful for employees to find a common language and understanding in the enterprise.

  • No additional effort - Index is built automatically:
    The index is rendered automatically as a result of tagging content using managed metadata. Starting nodes could be given from existing taxonomies. Tagging could be completely automatically with the Auto Tagger component.

    The web part comes with template-based output (XSLT). Additional information, such as title, ID, description, number of tagged items can be displayed. The tag can be linked to the tag profile as well as to the tagged content items and documents itself. You can setup a root node to start in the taxonomy tree. A usage count can be displayed for social tags.

    The solution is completely based on the new Enterprise Metadata Management API of SharePoint 2010.

With the complete FREE shareware version you can download and use a feature-limited solution. To buy a license for the SharePoint Knowledge Management Suite, please click the shopping card symbols on this page.

The product is licensed on a per server base (one time fee). No additional clients licenses (CALs) are required. If you have several servers (e.g. in a farm scenario) all servers have to be licensed. You need a license for every web frontend server. For background operation (Auto Tagger) application servers have to be licensensed. Infrastructure server, e.g. for indexing or search don't need a license. You can optionally buy Software Assurance (SA) for free updates / upgrades to protect your investment.

FAQs

How the Web Part is installed?

Please enter the product folder in the distribution zip-file, run the installer (*.exe) and install or upgrade the product following the steps. Use the "Run as Admin" option of the context menu (right click). After sucessfull installation please activate the feature on site collection level as a site collection administrator.

How the Webpart is configured?

  • You can display terms or social tags, all or only used ones.
  • You can chose a root node for the tags or terms to display.
  • You can configure the link target in the web part settings, e.g. link to the tag profile page or directly to the content tagged with the current item.

Which tags are displayed?

Depends on settings. Please keep in mind, that terms can be published as social tags. You have to enable "Metadata Publishing" for your list or library. Goto list or library settings, select Enterprise Metadata and Keyword Settings (in the Permission and Management Section of your settings). Enable "Metadata Publishing".

No tags are displayed? Tags are displayed but links are wrong? How to solve this issue?

Please compare to those tags, that are displayed with the Microsoft out-of-the-box Tag Cloud Web Part. If the default Tag Cloud Web Part displays no tags at all, the Managed Metadata Service and / or the User Profile Service and / or the User Profile Synchronization Service isn't configured well, or the crawler hasn't finished the job.

How to customize the link?

Generally you have all possibilities to customize the enterprise metadata search link for your specific requirements.

Ho to completely customize the output?

You can do this with the current version per XSLT.

How to display the usage count?

You can display a usage count for social tags only with the current version. But it is planned for the next edition, to enable this feature also for terms.

What's the limitation of the free shareware version?

In the free shareware version 10-20% of the tags are marked with additional Shareware information and linked to the product's web site.

How to activate a licensed version?

You have to place the license file into the solutions feature directory on all licensed WFEs.
