If working with SharePoint collaboration portals, numerous task lists exists in the various areas of work, scattered on various websites and pages of a site collection. So you can quickly lose the overview with your tasks!

With the Enhanced SharePoint User Tasks Web Part by Layer2 you can rollup these tasks from various lists of the site collection together, with very flexible display according to different criteria and clearly present - like in Outlook:
- Fexible data source: Tasks can be aggregated from the whole site collection, from the current site or from all sites below the current site.
- Support for various list types: Other SharePoint list types, e.g. issues etc. can be added to the query by ID.
- Filtering: Tasks can be filtered for not started, in progress, waiting for, delayed etc.
- Sorting: Tasks can be sorted by priority, due date, title etc. ascending or descending.
- Fields: You can choose specific fields to display, e.g. Link to source list, document link etc.
- User: The user or group whos tasks should be shown can be selected. By default tasks of the current user are shown. All user tasks can be also displayed.
- Data amount: The amount of task items can be limited to a given value.
The web part comes with an robust installer to allow it to be easily deployed within any SharePoint environment. It is available for WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 and Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 / Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.

No additional clients licenses (CALs) are required. If you have several servers (e.g. in a farm scenario)

INSTALLATION
The installation is done using a SharePoint Solution Package. The included wizard distributes all files to a SharePoint farm, if required, and does all necessary configurations. Before installation
- please make sure, that all servers are available online
- backup your current installation
- approve software on evaluation systems bevor installing in productive system
- use a regular service interval to install the solution
The application will not be available for a short time, because the application pool is restarted (IISreset). Start the installation process by executing the file "Install.Layer2.EnhancedUserTasks.exe" on the server, that hosts the SharePoint Central Administration with appropriate access rights.

If there are any problems, please take a look at our FAQs (General FAQ, Installation). After successful installation please select the desired web applications for deployment of the new feature.

This installation step can take up to 15 min.
FEATURE ACTIVATION
After successful deployment there is a new site collection feature available in all site collections of the selected web applications. To use the new web part, the feature „Enhanced SharePoint User Tasks Web Part by Layer2“ has to be activated on Site Collection level by a Site Collection Administrator. That has to be done in Web Site Settings > Site Collection Administration under Site Collection Features.
After activation the web part can be used and added to a web part page.
ADDING THE WEB PART
The web part can be placed by choosing "Edit Mode" for the desired page.
You'll find all web parts by Layer2 in the group "Layer2". First select the web part from the list and then click "Add".
If there are open tasks for the currently logged on user, this tasks will be displayed now by default. If change some settings you can go to configuration.
CONFIGURATION
To configure a web part please choose "Modify Shared Web Part" in the edit menu:

The web part has the following configuration settings available:

It's possible to filter the displayed tasks by status. Finished tasks are never shown in this list. Additional columns can be shown, e.g.
- Hyperlink to item (workflow document),
- hyperlink to list (icon linked to the source list of the item)
- Priority of the tasks
By default a maximum of 5 item entries is shown. It can be increased up to 1000 items.
Other task-oriented SharePoint list types, e.g. issues, can be added to the query by list ID. Please separate by comma, e.g. "107, 1010".

Sorting can be set to different columns:
- by due date of the task
- by task title
- by priority
All sorting can be done ascending or descending.
The user or group, that tasks should be displayed, can be chosen with the SharePoint people picker. If no user is selected, tasks of the currently logged on user are shown. If enabled, all user tasks can be shown.
You can see the results of modified settings without leaving this dialogue by clicking "Apply". To finish the configuration with save, please click "OK". The configuration of the web part is now finished.
LANGUAGES
The feature / web part is currently available in German and English language. If used in other language context, the English language is applied by default. Requests for other languages please send to sales@layer2.de.
UNINSTALL
To completely uninstall the solution, go these steps to the other direction. Please first deactivate the feature „Enhanced SharePoint User Tasks Web Part von Layer2“ on site collection level. Then start the installation wizard and choose "Remove". All installed files will be removed.
